Featured Video: KURATAS - A Grunt Unit / Robot Made in Japan

Do you ever wish that robots, grunt units, mobile suits, or even Gundams are real?

KURATAS is a giant, 4-ton Transformers-like super robot made by artist Kogoro Kurata in Suidobashi Heavy Industries (SHI) in Japan

The robot is called KURATAS – a giant, 4-ton(9,920 pounds), Transformers-like super robot that stands 4-meters (12 feet) tall. It is made by Suidobashi Heavy Industries (SHI) in Japan, designed by artist/Japanese engineer Kogoro Kurata and robotics expert Wataru Yoshizaki.

The torso is also the cockpit where a human pilot can sit and operate the machine with the help of motion sensor technology or via a smartphone. It can go up to 10kph (6mph) speed on the road.

It has a humanoid upper body and four insect-like legs with wheels and two fully-articulated arms (each side). It is armed with a multi-rocket launcher and two gattling cannons.

It is worth just over $1.3 million, according to Mashable.com.

The Kuratas made its debut in July at Wonder Fest 2012 – an annual hobby convention in Tokyo, Japan.

"The robots we saw in our generation were always big and always had people riding them, and I don’t think they have much meaning in the real world." – Kogoro Kurata

"But it really was my dream to ride in one of them, and I also think it’s one kind of Japanese culture. I kept thinking that it’s something that Japanese had to do." – Kogoro Kurata

For mecha fans who adore robots so much, this new technology is definitely awesome! It resembles with guntank (in Gundam series).

In my wildest imagination, I even dreamed of piloting a Gundam! But in my personal opinion, I just hope that this kind of robot be used for its main purpose – as an art and to make "become a robot pilot" dream come true. I hope this will never be used for wars (like in anime series Gundam) and violence.

KURATAS is an art piece. It is not a normal vehicle, so it does not guarantee you safety and comfort. However, it makes your dream of becoming a robot pilot comes true.
